Managing a complete patient file on an Apple II with only 48 KB of memory was a crazy gamble. The first versions of the program were actually 'self-cleaning': only the procedures in progress were saved on the computer. At the end of a series of treatments, a statement was printed along with the social security form. This statement was stapled into the patient's card, which then served only as a folder. A few years later, with the arrival of the Macintosh, the decision was made to rewrite everything on IBM-compatible PCs. Over time, thanks to technological advancements, the simple management of patient files expanded to include digital imaging and radiography. Throughout these years, the @gatha software served as the benchmark for all dental IT in France and elsewhere. While some of our competitors have been more successful commercially, they have never managed to close the enormous technological gap. The simplified entry of procedures onto a real dental chart by simply dragging and dropping a tool, such as a composite syringe, is the key to this success.
